If my capital is in GBP (I am from UK).

With the Eurozone as it is, which is the best option?

I would buy it on the London exchange so that you don't have to mess around with exchanging your currency. Either way currency exchange rates will effect you, so you are facing currency risk by owning Santander. If the GBP rises against the Euro, the stock price of Santander will fall (in terms of GBP).

You might be able to avoid the stamp duty tax by going through Madrid though. I'm not an expert with British tax law though, so talk to your stock broker.
